Background
Nick Rozsa is the new face coming out of Oxnard that is lighting up the surf wherever and whenever he surfs. The kid’s got game and skills to boot. It is refreshing to see a kid not hold back and go berserk every time he surfs. He’s an electric surfer who is exciting to watch and his usual mode to surfing is straight up petal to the metal.
Nick was born in the San Fernando Valley raised in Oregon, moved to Maui when he was five where his dad taught him how to surf, then finally settled in Oxnard growing up under the wings of Timmy Curran. He watched and learned from Timmy all the important aspects of boosting airs, gaining tube riding skills, and applying rail. Thus, Nick has a serious case of shrack-a-tosis.
His amateur results have been pretty stellar too, with the year of 2004 being his. He was I.S.A. American Surfing Champion at the Huntington event for the eighteen and under division, defeating Alex Gray, Dylan Graves, and Jeremy Johnston all being two years older than him at the time. He also won the Explorer Men's and Juniors divisions at the 2004 Western NSSA Championships, and the Explorer division for men back in 2003.
For 2006-7 he will be hitting the WQS year hard. He will have to adjust to the added pressure and the cut throat mentality of the Pro Tour but he has the skill sets to beat anyone and his surfing will only get more razor sharp. |
